QUICK TIP
If you’re creating your post while in the newsfeed, select the Sell or give away option when posting items that you’re selling or giving away, otherwise the post may be reported and removed. You may post about sales events like garage sales in the main feed, but if you want to make multiple posts about items you're selling, those belong in the For Sale & Free section.
See the full list of prohibited goods and services.
Our policies on illegal or regulated goods and spam also apply to For Sale and Free.
IMPORTANT NOTE
If you choose to use a payment app (P2P) keep these things in mind:
- Use a trusted, established platform like Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, or Cash App.
- Use strong password protection. Don't go for convenience.
- Use a credit card vs a debit card and monitor your bank account for any unauthorized transactions.
Seller code of conduct
Trust is essential to creating a neighborly experience on Nextdoor. We want neighbors to feel comfortable selling and buying from each other.
To help facilitate this trust, follow this code of conduct based on the main principle of our Community Guidelines: Everyone here is your neighbor. Please treat each other with respect.
- Follow through. After you’ve made arrangements for pickup or delivery of an item, show up or be available at the agreed upon time.
- Sell as advertised. Make sure that your listing accurately reflects the condition of the item and the price at which you want to sell it. Don’t surprise buyers by increasing the price, or not offering the item as advertised in your listing.
- Don’t profit from the generosity of other neighbors. There are many generous neighbors on Nextdoor offering their items for free. Taking advantage of that generosity by selling an item you received for free is considered a breach of trust.
While Nextdoor does not assume responsibility for the risk of transactions, neighbors may report sellers who violate this code of conduct. If you feel that a neighbor has violated this code of conduct, we encourage you to reach out to them via direct message to resolve your concerns. If that doesn’t work, you can provide feedback about your experience to the Nextdoor Support team.
If we receive complaints about an individual seller, we may take one or more of the following actions:
- Contact the seller with a warning.
- Place the seller on read-only access temporarily or permanently.
- Suspend the seller’s account temporarily or permanently.
PLEASE NOTE
Disputes and interactions that have occurred outside of the Nextdoor platform cannot be verified by Nextdoor Support. As a result, we may require complaints from multiple buyers before taking more severe actions like restricting a seller’s access to Nextdoor.
